<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of reducing inconvenient influence of temperature and ambient air acting on a printing material web and also a printing image after a function of pause is operated, particularly after pause of printing is finished, by improving a method for performing a function of pause during a printing operation. <P>SOLUTION: In at least one printing device DR, a printing unit 1 includes a print bar 4 that supports a print head 5. The printing unit 1 prints on a printing material web 3. A conveying speed of the printing material web 3 is reduced from a speed at a printing operation to a predetermined speed by an operation of a function of pause during a time period having a predetermined time length. At that time, the time length is chosen so as to cause the printing material web 3 to have an appropriate characteristic in conjunction with humidity and/or temperature at a lower side of the printing unit 1 of the printing device DR when the pause is finished.
