<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline battery having an excellent current cutoff mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: An alkaline battery of the prevent invention comprises a bottomed cylindrical battery case 1 in which a cylindrical cathode 2 and, in its hallow part via a bottomed cylindrical separator 4, an anode 3 are accommodated, and which has an opening thereof sealed with a sealing body 6, the sealing body being composed of, in order from outside toward inside, a terminal board 8, a circular sheet second connecting member 11, a circular sheet first connecting member 10 and a lid plate 7. The lid plate is provided with a ventilation hole 13 and has an anode current collector 12 electrically connected thereto. The first connecting member has a circumferential thin wall part 10a and, on an inner peripheral side thereof, is electrically connected to the second connecting member, with current flowing from the anode current collector to the lid plate, the first connecting member, the second connecting member and the terminal board in that order. When the internal pressure reaches a prescribed pressure, the thin wall part breaks, causing current conduction to be cut off and an opening end of the separator to be pressed against the lid plate to become shut tight.
