<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small solid state image pickup device capable of suppressing occurrence of streaking even if an object of high brightness is imaged, and a driving method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The solid state image pickup device includes pixel circuits 1 arrayed in two dimension which output a pixel signal according to a received light quantity, a vertical signal line 3 which is provided to correspond to the row of the pixel circuits 1 and is connected to the pixel circuit 1 of a corresponding row, a pixel current source circuit 4 that supplies a current to the vertical signal line 3, a column ADC6 which is provided to correspond to the vertical signal line 3 and performs AD conversion from the pixel signal outputted through the corresponding vertical signal line 3 to a digital signal, an LVDS output buffer circuit 11 connected to the outputs of the plurality of columns ADC6, and a control circuit 14 which controls the LVDS output buffer circuit 11.
