A road reflector or like sign has a wiper adjacent to it which is moved over the surface of the reflector on depression of an upstanding rubber or like pad, strip or stud in the road surface remote from the wiper, the depression of the pad or like transmitting movement to the wiper either through a blast of air, a pulse of fluid pressure or a mechanical connection. The. wiper 9, Fig. 1, is attached to a pivoted arm 8 and is moved across the surface of the reflector 7 on the verge of a road by means of a bellows 4 which is expanded when the pad 1 which is hollow is depressed by passing traffic. In an alternative construction the bellows is omitted and the pulse of air from the pad is directed on to a flap on the wiper arm to raise it. In another construction, Fig. 7, a wiper 35 is fixed to one end of a lever 31 which is suspended from a wire spring 32 and which has at its other end a stud 30 which is depressed against a spring 34 by passing traffic, so moving the wiper 35 over reflectors 36. In a further construction the stud is connected to the wiper through a bell-crank and a wire cable. A protection cover over the reflectors may be apertured to permit rain water to drip on the reflectors to help to clean them.</p> |
