A bearing lining comprises a copper-lead alloy containing up to 50 per cent lead and indium is alloyed with the lead component by electroplating it on to the lining and then diffusing. For use with a nitrided journal, the lead content is preferably from 25 to 35 per cent, and the lining may include 0.5 to 2 per cent of tin. For use with a soft mild steel journal, the lead content is preferably between 40 and 50 per cent and may include 0.5 to 5 per cent of tin or 0.2 to 2 per cent of silver. The indium diffuses into the lead to produce a 5 to 10 per cent alloy therewith. Specifications 658,335 and 676,215 are referred to.
|
