<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a coating of uniform thickness with high accuracy on a wrap part of a scroll body by a simple method and device. <P>SOLUTION: An orbiting scroll 10 is affixed to a turntable 22, and the orbiting scroll 10 is rotated around a center C of a spiral. A spray nozzle 42 is positioned at the center C of the spiral or an outer end of the orbiting scroll 10, and pointed at a lateral face 14a of a wrap part 14 to spray a coating material. The spray nozzle 42 is moved radially along a straight line L while spraying the coating material. If spraying is started at the center C of the spiral, the angular velocity at which the orbiting scroll 10 is rotated is progressively reduced in accordance with the movement of the spray nozzle 42. On the other hand, if spraying is started at the outside end, the angular velocity at which the orbiting scroll 10 is rotated is progressively increased in accordance with the movement of the spray nozzle 42.
