According to the invention, a drivetrain for a motor vehicle has an internal combustion engine (2) and an electric machine (3) which can be operated as an electric motor and/or generator. The electric machine (3) has a rotor (5a), wherein the rotor (5a) is rotatably mounted by means of a bearing (4) which serves as a first bearing point of the rotor (5a), and a rotor shaft (6), which has a connecting unit (7) which serves as a second bearing point of the rotor (5a). The rotor shaft (6) is connected in a rotationally conjoint manner to a drive shaft (8) via the connecting unit (7), wherein the bearing (4) is formed as a fixed bearing and the connecting unit (7) is formed as a floating bearing. It is proposed that a preload device (9) be provided which indirectly or directly adjoins the connecting unit (7) and by means of which a preload can be generated between the two bearing points (4, 7) of the rotor (5a).
