<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow packets received from, for example, a higher-layer of a communication device to be designated to have a specific packet handling identifier, such as a Quality of Service (QOS) level. <P>SOLUTION: Packets are handled based on an assigned packet handling identifier through the identification of different packet-types. This identifier can, for example, enable forwarding of latency-sensitive packets without delay and allow error-sensitive packets to be stored for possible retransmission.
