摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photonic crystal surface-emitting laser or the like which ensures high light diffraction efficiency and carrier injection efficiency while suppressing light absorption. <P>SOLUTION: In the photonic crystal surface-emitting laser, a plurality of semiconductor layers, each including an active layer 104, and a two-dimensional photonic crystal layer 105 provided near the active layer and having a resonance mode in the in-plane direction, are laminated on a substrate 101. In the two-dimensional photonic crystal layer 105, a low diffractive index medium 105b and a high diffractive index medium 105a, having a high diffractive index when compared with the low diffractive index medium, are arranged periodically in the in-plane direction of the substrate, and a sidewall member 105c having conductivity is interposed between the low diffractive index medium and the high diffractive index medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
