<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of trouble by detecting properties of fuel oil as a fuel to be used online, in a controller for an engine. <P>SOLUTION: In this engine system, a fuel supply system 24 capable of supplying the fuel oil as the fuel stored in a first fuel tank 23A into a fuel chamber 15 from a fuel supply pipe 25 is configured. The engine system includes: a laser analysis device 30 separately taking in a part of the fuel flowing through the fuel supply pipe 25, and detecting an inferior component in the fuel; and a fuel decision unit 51 confirming whether or not the fuel inferior component exceeds a prescribed threshold value as the result of the analysis in the laser analysis device, and deciding quality of the fuel.
