摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for displaying a color image on a thin type display device by using three or more primary colors. <P>SOLUTION: A device for displaying a color image may include an illumination source including a plurality of light-producing elements 212 capable of producing light of each of m different wavelength spectra, in which m is equal to or more than three. The device also includes an array 214 of attenuating elements capable of spatially and selectively attenuating the light produced by the illumination source according to an attenuation pattern corresponding to gradation expression of the color image, and an array 216 of color sub-pixel filter elements capable of receiving the selectively attenuated light from the array 214 of attenuating elements.
