METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR AUTHENTICATING USER EQUIPMENT IN GENERAL AUTHENTICATION ARCHITECTURE

A method and an apparatus for authenticating a User Equipment (UE) in the General Authentication Architecture (GAA) are provided in the embodiments of the present invention. The method includes: receiving an application request or an authentication request sent by a UE; requesting from a Home Subscriber Server (HSS) authentication parameters for the Digest authentication according to the application request or the authentication request; receiving the authentication parameters for the Digest authentication sent by the HSS, and performing the Digest authentication to the UE according to the authentication parameters. With the embodiments of the present invention, when it is determined to use the Digest authentication to the UE, requesting corresponding authentication parameters from the HSS, and performing the Digest authentication to the UE by using the requested authentication parameters, so as to enable the GAA to support the Digest authentication method, and to realize the effective authentication to the UE.
