PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tree height grasping method capable of easily grasping whether a tree exceeds a separation distance between an overhead transmission line and the tree due to a simple configuration of an upright body and the upright body used for the tree height grasping method.

SOLUTION: A separation distance determination method for grasping a height of a tree 110 to be planted below an overhead transmission line 102 and determining whether a separation distance D between the overhead transmission line 102 and a top part of the tree 110 is secured includes an upright body installation step of installing an upright body 10 having a prescribed height in a vegetation region of the tree 110 below the overhead transmission line 102 and a tree height grasping step of grasping a height of the tree 110 by comparing the height position of the upright body 10 installed in the upright body installation step with the height of the tree 110. This allows you to grasp a height position of the tree 110 at a glance and also to easily determine whether the separation distance D between the overhead transmission line 102 and the top part of the tree 110 is secured.
