<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a truing method capable of forming the outer peripheral surface of a grinding wheel to an optimum state in a short period of time without using an accurate detection sensor, and also provide a grinding machine. <P>SOLUTION: A rough truing roll 9 and a finish truing roll 10 are attached to the rotating shaft of a truing device 11 at an interval wider than the width of the grinding wheel 7. In a first truing step, after a rough truing is performed by moving the rough truing roll 9 preferentially, the finish truing roll 10 is brought into contact with the grinding wheel 7 to determine the relative position of the grinding wheel 7 and the finish truing roll 10.
