<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printed matter inspection device which is capable of inspecting a printed matter having variable information printed thereon represented by a slip, without referring to prepared management data etc. and furthermore capable of recording an inspection history. <P>SOLUTION: Code patterns of identification codes recorded on the printed surfaces of a printed matter 15 having the variable information printed on the front and back sides are read respectively by code readers 21a and 21b and converted to code information by a code taking-in part 31. Moreover, a code comparison and determination part 32 compares the code information of the front and back sides and determines whether the code information is correct.
