Acrylonitrile polymers are spun-dyed by dissolving in the spinning solution for the production of filaments, e.g. a dimethyl formamide solution, a basic dyestuff having a definite affinity for the acrylonitrile polymer, and then spinning the solution. Basic dyestuffs specified are the condensation products of 1,3,3-trimethyl - 2 - methyleneindoline - omega - aldehyde with 6-amino-2-methylbenzthiazole and alpha-methyl indole, the condensation products of 1,3,3-trimethyl-2-methylene-indoline with 1-methyl-2-phenylindole-3-aldehyde, 4 - chlorethylmethylamino - benzaldehyde, 2-methyl - 4 - chlorethylethylamino - benzaldehyde and N - ethyl - 3 - carbazoaldehyde, the dyestuffs obtained by heating aniline with nitrobenzene in the presence of iron salts and either extracting with dilute hydrochloric acid or sulphonating with concentrated sulphuric acid and the dyestuffs described in Specification 784,843, [Group IV (c)].
