Multi-function copier, scanner, printer and fax devices (MFDs 60) and other peripherals are made network accessible to mass storage devices (eg. USB drives 64) via a server 42 running an application 40 which detects the presence of the storage device via queries and communicates via a Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). Stored electronic documents can thus be modified and printed by applying print attributes (eg. colour, quantity etc.) at either the device 60 or the client application 40. The server may require authentication before access, and different servers may be permitted access only to specific areas of the mass storage device. |
