Layer-wise production of three-dimensional objects comprises inertizing the building space (1) with an inert gas or a gas mixture, whose density is higher than that of air. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a device for layer-wise production of three-dimensional objects, comprising at least the building space and a passage connected to it for inert gases and gas mixtures, whose density is higher than that of air; and (2) three-dimensional objects produced by the above method.
