PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight driving device which can prevent the time required to converge chromaticity from being prolonged due to secular change or the like when predetermined white light is obtained by adjusting an amount of current flowing through LEDs by a feedback control, and to provide a backlight driving method. SOLUTION: An amount of current obtained by multiplying an initial amount of current stored in a nonvolatile memory 60, by a predetermined multiplication coefficient is taken as an initial value to adjust an amount of current flowing through each LED 3 by feedback control, whereby predetermined white light is generated. When a difference between the amount of current after the feedback control and the initial amount of current exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the multiplication coefficient is updated according to the amount of current after the feedback control.
