PURPOSE: A book return machine is provided to improve use convenience by automatically opening and closing the opening thereof. CONSTITUTION: A book return machine comprises a cabinet(110), a book return container(120), an optical scanner(130), a central processing unit(140), an opening and closing unit, central database, and a lending history arrangement device(170). In the cabinet, the book return container is equipped. The book return container comprises a dropping shock absorbing unit. The optical scanner recognizes a bar code attached to a book. The central processing unit receives an ID code transmitted by the optical scanner and generates and sends an opening and closing signal. The central database stores the bibliographic information of books, private information, member information, and individual lending book history information. The lending history arrangement device prints the lending history information.
