A dual mode power transmission apparatus for a hybrid electric vehicle is provided to select a mode with high efficiency in a low speed section and a high speed section by changing the mode above a constant speed by using a clutch. A dual mode power transmission apparatus for a hybrid electric vehicle includes two motors(102,104), three planetary gear sets(112,114,116), an engine(122) and two clutches(132,134). The first motor(102) is connected to a third linear gear(116a), and the engine is connected to a first carrier(112b). The second motor is connected to a second linear gear(114a), and a driving axis(200) is connected to the first linear gear. A first clutch is connected between the second linear gear and a third ring gear(116c), and a second clutch is connected between the third ring gear and a transaxle housing. The first carrier is connected to a second carrier(114b), and the first ring gear(112c) is connected to a third carrier(116b) through a second ring gear(114c). |
