Class 20(iii) Mechanisms for opening and closing pivoted windows and the like includes a box formed from two similar but axially separate half-boxes A, B, each having one end closed and one end open assembled with their open ends adjacent and held against axial movement but having freedom of rotary movement relatively to' one another. One half-box houses a primary gear wheel 44 and the other a secondary wheel 45 clutched to the primary and both rotating on a common spindle 31 which secures the half-boxes together. Each halfbox has a tangential passage 26, 24, that in the half-box A being for the flexible driver 52 and that in the other half-box being for the driven member 53 jointed to the window &c. at 56.
