PURPOSE: A strand crack preventing device and method for continuous casting are provided to control the amount of cooling water sprayed to the edge of strand immediately when detecting crack of slab, thereby preventing crack. CONSTITUTION: A strand crack preventing device for continuous casting comprises spray units, a spray amount regulating unit(130), an input unit(150), and a control unit(170). The spray units spray cooling water transversely to the left edge, center, and right edge of strand(80) discharged from a mold. The spray amount regulating unit controls the spray units to regulate the amount of cooling water sprayed to the center and edges of the strand. The input unit inputs a setting value for regulating the amount of cooling water sprayed to the center and edges of the strand according to crack of cast slab. The control unit controls the spray amount regulating unit according to the cooling water amount set through the input unit, thereby preventing crack of the strand.
