The exchanger has two collectors (21, 22), where a separator (25) placed in one of the collectors and includes communication channels (30, 32) connected at the respective collectors in closed position or in open position to allow coolant to be entered into or leave the exchanger. Movable valves (41, 42) allow fluid communication between chambers (22a, 22b). The valves are activated when the coolant circulates in the collector according to determined circulation direction, and deactivated when the coolant circulates in opposite direction of circulation. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a reversible heat exchanger.
