<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for degassing liquid, where the liquid is supplied to a membrane contactor by gravity. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: a shell-side liquid flow path membrane contactor 12 having a liquid inlet 14, a liquid outlet 16 and a vacuum port 18; a first tube 22 having a proximal end 24 and a distal end 26, the proximal end 24 being connected to the liquid inlet 14 of the membrane contactor 12; and a second tube 28 having a reservoir connector 34 connected to the distal end 26 of the first tube 22, a proximal end 30 and a distal end 32, the proximal end 30 being connected to the liquid outlet 16 of the membrane contactor 12. In operation, the distal end 26 of the first tube 22 is located above the membrane contactor 12, and the distal end 32 of the second tube 28 is located below the membrane contactor 12.
