<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the speed of ranging and allow a user to continuously capture a desired image at a moment when the user wants to capture the image. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup apparatus includes: imaging means for converting a subject's image into an electric signal via a lens; image display means for displaying the captured image; position specification accepting means installed on a display surface of the image display means and accepting a position specification to the image displayed on the image display means; ranging means for ranging a distance to the subject using a plurality of two-dimensional image pickup elements; ranging area setting means for setting a ranging area that is calculated from the ranging result output from the ranging means, to a range including the plurality of positions specified via the position specification accepting means; focal position determining means for determining a focal position based on the distance of the set ranging area; and continuous image pickup control means for capturing image at a plurality of focal positions determined by the focal position determination means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
