<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition providing a composite material having improved characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The composition comprises: (a) a curable resin sol comprising a colloidal dispersion of substantially spherical fine particles in a curable resin, wherein the curable resin is selected from a thermosetting resin or a radiation-curable resin which can form glassy net-like structure polymer by curing, and the fine particles are inorganic metal oxide fine particles having surface-bonded organic groups which serve to compatibilize the fine particles and the curable resin; and (b) organic or inorganic reinforcing fibers.
