<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz-wave device capable of improving the generation efficiency of a terahertz wave or improving S/N ratio of detecting the terahertz wave by increasing a region of the interaction between exciting light and a Schottky junction portion. <P>SOLUTION: A terahertz-wave generating device comprises a terahertz wave generating layer 2 and an electrode 3 disposed in contact with the terahertz wave generating layer 2, and generates a terahertz wave 5 by irradiation of exciting light 4 and by applying a voltage to the electrode 3. The electrode 3 and a Schottky junction portion are formed on a side surface on which the exciting light 4 is incident and its opposite side surface of at least a portion of the terahertz wave generating layer 2, and the Schottky junction portion is irradiated with the exciting light 4. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
