<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a lithium secondary battery which is free of pattern transfer of papermaking net and pin holes, has excellent electrolyte wettability and a low water content, hardly exhibits scuffing, and excels in heat resistance and dendrite resistance, and to provide a lithium secondary battery using the separator. <P>SOLUTION: A separator for a lithium secondary battery comprises a wet-laid nonwoven fabric containing: an ultrafine fiber obtained by splitting splittable conjugate fiber composed of mutually adjacent ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer and polypropylene; and a synthetic staple fiber, where at least part of the ultrafine fiber comprising polypropylene is melted and intersections between fibers contained in the wet-laid nonwoven fabric are bonded, and the separator does not have a coating.
