A method for removing a coating of a coated optical fibre for the removal of a coating of a coated optical fibre (3) in which a glass fibre (3a) is coated with polyimide resin (3b), wherein lengthwise tension is applied to the coated optical fibre (3) while two points on the coated optical fibre (3) with a predetermined lengthwise gap therebetween are gripped by fibre clamps (5, 7), and while the tension is still being applied, a coating removal blade (29) is pressed against the coated optical fibre (3) in a direction orthogonal to the lengthwise direction of the coated optical fibre (3) in order to cause bending of the coated optical fibre (3), and the coating removal blade (29) is moved along the lengthwise direction of the coated optical fibre (3) which remains bent, whereby the coating is removed.
