Producing a platinum-carrier-catalyst, comprises applying platinum on a carrier material made of aluminized silicon dioxide by contacting the carrier material with a platinum-precursor-solution so that the platinum-precursor is deposited on the carrier material and a platinum-precursor-carrier material is obtained, and subjecting the platinum-precursor-carrier material to annealing and reduction. The aluminized, non-porous, amorphous silicon dioxide is used as the carrier material. An independent claim is also included for the platinum-carrier-catalyst comprising the carrier material on which particulate platinum is present.
