The device (1) has a chamber i.e. coolant chamber (4), provided for retaining a coolant (3) and partially limited by a coolant-chamber side (5) of a membrane (7) that is partially permeable for oxygen (6), where the membrane is made from a silicone material. Another chamber i.e. gas chamber (8), is partially attached to the former chamber and limited by a gas-chamber side (9) of the membrane. The latter chamber retains an oxygen-exhausting medium i.e. nitrogen (10). A nitrogen recovery device increases nitrogen concentration relative to ambient air. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for reducing oxygen concentration in a coolant of a cooling circuit (2) a method for operating an electric appliance.
