The liquid cartridge has a liquid storage section which is adapted to store liquid. A liquid outlet path (43a) is in communication with an interior of the liquid storage section and is configured to receive an elongated subject matter (153) e.g. hollow conduit from an exterior of the liquid cartridge. A detector (66) is arranged in a predetermined area within a liquid outlet path so as to detect the elongate subject matter. An independent claim is included for printer.
