<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize highly efficient intra prediction mode information coding/decoding by reducing a code amount for mode identification. <P>SOLUTION: An input image is divided into plural blocks, each block is divided into processing units having the same size or a smaller size, intra prediction modes are determined in units of the respective processing units, the intra prediction modes are held, the intra prediction modes of one or plural predetermined processing units around a processing unit are obtained to estimate the intra prediction mode of the processing unit, the result of the determined intra prediction mode and the result of the estimated intra prediction mode are compared to determine whether they match each other, the comparison result is coded and further, when the comparison result indicates a mismatch, the result of the determined prediction mode is coded, the intra prediction modes of one or plural predetermined processing units around the processing unit are obtained and compared, and the coding is controlled based on the comparison result. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
