<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter unit which can be easily installed in a tank while preventing reduction of a filter effective area due to deposit. <P>SOLUTION: This filter unit includes: cartridges 5, 6 storing filters 9 disposed sideways for purifying muddy water; and legs 7 detachably installed to the periphery of the lower face of the cartridges 5, 6. Specifically, the cartridges 5, 6 are vertically stacked in a plurality of stages. The cartridges 5, 6 have detachable net bodies 52, 62 mounted on the upper and lower faces of frame bodies 51, 61. On the peripheral faces of the cartridges 5, 6, packing materials 55, 65 are formed for preventing water from leaking to the inner face of the tank.
