<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest which comes in soft contact with a human body and is superior in fitness and cushioning. <P>SOLUTION: A number of vertically long projecting stripes 49 are formed at least on the front face of a backrest 16, of which a hip support portion 16a is attached to a back frame 18 by supporting both left and right ends of the same. The backrest 16 is made of a resin material having rubbery properties, and is so elastic (flexible) that a person can press and bend the same easily with his or hand when not attached to the back frame.
