<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road lighting system in which emergency can be clearly recognized as more serious to a driver and the driver can meet such emergency immediately so as to prepare himself against a traffic jam in front. <P>SOLUTION: The road lighting system is provided with a case 100 located at a balustrade part 900 of a road R, a lighting part 200 which is housed in this case 100 and irradiates light to a road surface, a sensor part 400 which is housed in the case 100 and detects a speed of a vehicle running on the road R, and an attention-rousing light emitting part 300 which is housed in the case 100 and emits light when the speed of the vehicle detected by the sensor part 400 becomes a predetermined speed or slower.
