The invention relates to a method for the heat treatment of wood, including a step comprising the heating of the wood in a furnace (2) in a chamber using hot gases (17) supplied by a generator and a step comprising the collection of the fumes originating from the treatment. The method is essentially characterised in that it comprises a step in which water is injected into the furnace (2), such as to create water vapour.
