摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locating device capable of accurately finding a position for assembling a component to a workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: The workpiece has a loose hole and a threaded hole formed at a bottom face of the loose hole. The locating device moves a screw bolt in positive and negative directions on a u-axis and in positive and negative directions on a v-axis while contacting the screw bolt with the bottom face. The locating device determines positions P&alpha;, P&beta;, P&gamma;, P&delta; where a reaction force is not smaller than a threshold value Th1 when the screw bolt is moved in the positive and negative directions on the u-axis and in the positive and the negative directions on the v-axis. When a distance between the position P&alpha; and the position P&beta; is smaller than a threshold value Th2, the locating device performs movement in a v-axis direction starting from a middle position between the position P&alpha; and the position P&beta; and the determination of the position P&gamma; and the position P&delta;.
