<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that accurately detects a dropping state of developer corresponding to the degree of deterioration of a carrier of developer. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a reserving part 200 that reserves developer discharged from an exhaust port h1 to an internal space is, which tapers in a funnel-like manner toward a drop hole h2 at the bottom edge thereof; an exhaust valve 210 that can shield the drop hole h2; and drop amount detection means 250 for detecting the amount of developer that drops from the drop hole h2.
