An electric vehicle battery system equipped with a plurality of battery element rows each configured by connecting a plurality of battery elements in series comprises: parallel connection switches for selecting the battery element rows, connecting the selected battery element rows in parallel, and performing connection to and disconnection from an electric load mounted on an electric vehicle on a per-battery-element-row basis; a parallel connection switch control unit for controlling the parallel connection switches; a vehicle request power calculation unit for calculating vehicle request power; a remaining amount detection unit for detecting the remaining amounts of the battery element rows; a voltage detection unit for detecting the voltages of the battery element rows; and a battery system control device for controlling the parallel connection switches on the basis of the vehicle request power, the remaining amounts of the battery element rows, and the voltages of the battery element rows.
