PURPOSE: A dome light power controlling device and method are provided to prevent the physical damage of an operator by secluding the discharge of a vehicle battery through an automatic light turning off function. CONSTITUTION: A sensor(120) senses a passenger or pet inside a vehicle. The sensor is one or more infrared sensors. A controller(130) receives sensing information from the sensor. The controller secludes power supply to a dome light(110) when the passenger or the pet is not sensed by the sensor. The controller is electrically connected to a power switch of the dome light. The dome light comprises an illuminating unit for illuminating inside the vehicle and the power switch for turning on and off the illuminating unit.
