<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system for an on-vehicle machine which inhibits response to request signals transmitted from an other vehicle (a vehicle-side unit mounted on the other vehicle) so as to suppress the battery consumption of a portable machine. <P>SOLUTION: A vehicle-side unit transmits WAKE to a portable machine 200 at an every prescribed time interval, and transmits Challenge at a preset transmission interval inherent to the vehicle-side unit when ACK is received from the portable machine 200 in response to the WAKE.
