<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ballast water treatment method that uses ballast water treatment membrane cartridges capable of supplying a large amount of ballast-treated water to a ballast tank in a short period of time. <P>SOLUTION: The ballast water treatment method is configured as follows. A membrane cartridge 1 includes a membrane, a raw-water flow path, and a treated-water flow path. Two or more membrane cartridges 1 are arranged in parallel. The two or more membrane cartridges 1 are commonly provided with a first manifold 2 and a second manifold 3. The first manifold 2 has a first flow path directly connected and communicating with the raw-water flow paths. The second manifold 3 has a first flow path directly connected and communicating with the raw-water flow paths, and a second flow path communicating with the treated-water flow paths. Ballast raw water is supplied from the first flow path of the first manifold 2 to the raw-water flow paths during the membrane treatment, thereby filtering the ballast raw water and obtaining membrane treated water. Next, the ballast raw water is supplied from the first flow path of the first manifold 2 or the first flow path of the second manifold 3 to the raw-water flow paths during the membrane cleaning, thereby cleaning the membrane surfaces.
