A method of operating a navigation system to provide an advertisement is disclosed. A desired arrival time at a destination is obtained, and the advertisement is selected from an advertisement database. The advertisement includes an incentive to visit a point of interest associated with the advertisement to obtain a product or a service. A travel time from a current location of the navigation system to the destination including traveling to the point of interest to obtain the product or the service is determined, and a new arrival time at the destination is determined. If the new arrival time is before the desired arrival time, the advertisement is provided. If the new arrival time is after the desired arrival time, the advertisement is not provided and another advertisement is requested by the system. |
