The system has a slave unit i.e. integrated circuit (IC) (30), coupled to a main unit i.e. microcomputer (10), through a communication line (20) i.e. serial communication line. Slave processing units (31-33) of the IC communicate with the microcomputer through the line. A determining unit determines whether the processing units selected as communication partners by the microcomputer match with the processing units selected as the communication partners by the IC. The determining unit comprises a verification unit (27) and a verification code transmission unit (46). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling communication in an integrated electronic control unit (ECU) (2) a machine-readable medium comprising a set of instructions to execute a method for controlling communication in an integrated ECU.
