<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give a feeling of security to an operator regarding an endoscope system for irradiating an observed site of a subject with light different in wavelength band to acquire information on matter of interest present at the observed site. <P>SOLUTION: The observed site of the subject is irradiated with a plurality of light different in wavelength band. Reflected light from the observed site is imaged by a CCD 35, and reflection spectra S are computed by a reflection spectrum computing section 80 based on imaging signals output from the CCD 35. A multiple regression analysis section 81 makes a multiple regression analysis of the reflection spectra S and absorption spectra (an) of the matter of interest such as blood and hemoglobin and matter of non-interest such as bile and staining matter. An eliminating section 83 eliminates spectral components of the matter of non-interest obtained by the multiple regression analysis, from the reflection spectra S. A blood vessel information acquiring section 84 acquires blood vessel information such as oxygen saturation and blood vessel depth based on the reflection spectra S' from which the spectral components of the matter of non-interest are eliminated.
