<p>To reduce the effect of, or to act as a deterrent to, the threat of piracy, the invention provides a portable safe-room 10 comprising a standard or high cube ISO shipping container 20, the container 20 having armour plate 74 located substantially adjacent its inside wall, the container including a citadel 30 located inside of the armour plate 74, the citadel 30 including communication means for communicating with remote locations, and water storage means, the safe-room 10 including air conditioning equipment 82 for providing conditioned air to the interior of the citadel 30. The safe-room 10 may be used by a ship's personnel to await rescue and avoid capture. This invention can be used exclusively or in conjunction with other measures for protecting a vessel.</p> |
