<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical amplifier that suppresses sudden changes in gain while maintaining flat wavelength dependence of gain despite changes in input signal light power. <P>SOLUTION: An optical amplifier includes two or more optical amplification sections each including an erbium-doped fiber for amplifying signal light, a semiconductor laser for generating excitation light to the erbium-doped fiber, a multiplexer for multiplexing the signal light and the excitation light, and light power detection means for detecting input signal light power to and output signal light power from the erbium-doped fiber, and further includes control means configured to control a driving current to the semiconductor laser of each optical amplification section in accordance with the detection results of the light power detection means such that a result of addition/subtraction of amplified spontaneous emission correction values to/from the sum of gains of the optical amplification sections, which are differences between the detected value of output signal light power and the detected value of input signal light power of the optical amplification sections, is a predetermined fixed target value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
