<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming unit with a simple configuration which is capable of cleaning off residual toner on an image carrier without damaging the surface of the image carrier and preventing scattering of removed toner so as not to contaminate a driving mechanism, and an image forming apparatus having the image forming unit. <P>SOLUTION: A driving mechanism 50 comprises: a driving input gear 43 for inputting driving force to a drum shaft 42; a first gear member 51 which is fixed to a drum flange 41a; a second gear member 53 which is rotatably fitted to the drum flange 41a; an idle gear 55 which is engaged to the first gear member 51 and the second gear member 53; and a pressure spring 44 which presses a drum flange 41b toward the drum flange 41a.
